Benefits of a UV Sanitation System for Your Pool

Benefits of a UV Sanitation System for Your Pool

There’s nothing quite like taking a dip into a sparkling clean pool in summer to relax and cool off. However, to keep your pool’s water crystal clear, you need to maintain the water clarity. Organic debris, algae, skincare products and body oil can quickly compromise the integrity of your pool water. In order to keep the water clear, you have to use a water purification product, such as chlorine. Chlorine can clean up any water issues, but it does have some drawbacks. Its strong smell can irritate lungs and trigger allergies and can cause rashes, skin irritation and dry skin. Trying to maintain a balance of chemicals while minimizing the side effects can be a nightmare. So, what are the alternatives to standard pool sanitation products?

Non-Chemical UV Pool Sanitation Systems

Ultraviolet (UV) pool sanitizers are a safe, healthy alternative to chlorine pool products. They use a non-chemical cutting-edge process that utilizes germicidal UV light rays that not only sanitize the pool water, but also other surfaces that may be contaminated. By emitting a high-intensity germicidal light ray, the highly concentrated electromagnetic energy disrupts the RNA or DNA of specific polluting organisms such as bacteria, protozoa, cysts, viruses, pathogens and algae, and destroys other organic matter that can form dangerous chlorine by-products.

UV sanitation units are appropriate for any pool, including inground, aboveground, concrete, fiberglass and vinyl, and are compatible with virtually any equipment brand, regardless of who manufactured the pump, filter, heater or other pool equipment. Additionally, UV units are simple to operate, energy-efficient, and require minimal maintenance. It is also easier to maintain pH and alkalinity levels in the water than traditional chlorination methods.

Unlike chemical chlorine products, UV sanitizers are a safe, environmentally friendly physical process that has no harmful residual effect on humans, animals, plants or aquatic life.

How Does UV Filtration Work?

The entire UV filtration process occurs within an enclosed sanitizing chamber located in your pool equipment, rather than in your pool, so nobody splashing in the pool is exposed to UV light. The water circulates through your pool equipment for heating and filtration, then enters the enclosed chamber where special UV bulbs treat the water with intense germicidal rays from a transparent polymer or quartz tube. After passing through the tube, the light penetrates cell membranes of microbes, disabling their RNA or DNA, eliminating any chance of multiplying or reproducing.

Chlorine vs. UV Filtration

Unlike chemical chlorine products, UV sanitizers are a safe, environmentally friendly physical process that has no harmful residual effect on humans, animals, plants or aquatic life. There is no need to buy, store, transport or handle dangerous chemicals. With UV pool maintenance you can drastically reduce the amount of chemicals required to keep your pool sparkling. Your pool will have fewer chloramines because UV reduces chlorine requirements, and the photooxidation process obliterates most of the chloramines.

Whether you are building your new dream pool or are upgrading your present filtration system, you should consider installing a UV sanitizing unit.
