10 Fun Pool Games for Your Kids

10 Fun Pool Games for Your Kids

With warmer weather on the way, your kids will soon be able to start enjoying your pool. While swimming is fun, pool games can provide them with even more excitement. Have your kids try some of the following game ideas this spring and summer.

Simple Fun and Games

For these pool games, your kids don’t need any special supplies or toys.

  • Marco Polo: Have one child close their eyes and call “Marco” while the other kids move around the pool and respond with “Polo.” The child with the closed eyes needs to tag one of the other kids.
  • Belly flop contest: If your kids are comfortable doing belly flops into your pool, they can have a contest. The child who does the most impressive or the biggest belly flop is the winner.
  • Races: Your kids can test their speed by pretending to be dolphins and swimming as fast as they can to the other side of the pool.
  • Atomic Whirlpool: Your kids can create their own whirlpool by moving in the same direction around the edges of the pool. When they have the whirlpool going, they can turn in the other direction and try to go against the current.
  • Octopus: Have one child stay in the center of the pool while the others line up at one end and try to get to the other end. As they go by, the child in the middle tries to tag them. Any kids that are tagged join hands with the child in the middle and try to tag the rest of the kids.
  • F-I-S-H: This game has each child perform a certain task or stunt, such as doing a flip in the water. For each task they can’t do, they get a letter. The child who ends up with “FISH” first loses the game.

Friendly Competition with a Few Supplies

Each of these games requires at least one item, but they’re easy to set up and play.

  • Invisi-bottle: Fill a bottle with water, then toss it into the pool while all the kids have their backs to the water. The winner is the child who finds the bottle in the pool first.
  • Noodle Jousting: Have kids joust with pool noodles while trying to stay afloat on a raft or inflatable. The kids who fall off first lose the game.
  • Ping Pong: Toss a bucket of ping pong balls in the pool. Kids have to compete to gather as many balls as possible.
  • Scavenger Hunt: Throw a couple of safe items into the pool, and make sure they sink to the bottom. Have the kids hunt for these items and collect them.
